Russia warns of Ukrainian laboratories at the service of the Pentagon

The head of the radiological, chemical and biological protection troops of the Russian Armed Forces, Igor Kirillov, on Monday denounced the existence in Ukraine of laboratories working for the United States Department of Defense.

According to Kirillov, there is a network of more than 30 centers in the country whose client is the Pentagon’s Threat Reduction Agency, specializing in scientific research and health epidemiology. “The Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly paid attention to the military and biological programs implemented by the Pentagon in the former Soviet space,” he said, according to TASS news agency.

He indicated that the Black and Veatch company, affiliated with the US Department of Defense, is involved in the implementation of these projects.

He added that among the priorities of these laboratories is the monitoring of the biological situation in the presumed areas of deployment of military contingents of the member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

According to Kirillov, another is the collection and export to the United States of strains of dangerous microorganisms. Another direction of work is research on the study of possible biological weapons agents, specific to the region, which have natural sources and can be transmitted to man.

He also informed that the Pentagon is carrying out the project “Diagnosis, observation and prevention of zoonotic diseases in the Armed Forces of Ukraine” since 2021, with funding of $11.8 million.

He stressed that between 2020 and 2021, the German Defense Ministry conducted a study of Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever pathogens, leptospirosis, meningitis and hantavirus in Ukraine in the framework of the implementation of a bilateral initiative to ensure biosecurity at the external borders of the European Union.
