UN reiterates that its humanitarian agencies will remain in Ukraine

The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, reiterated that agencies of the UN will remain in Ukraine to provide assistance, while the humanitarian operations linked to the corridor opened in Donbass are expected to continue today.

As Guterres pointed on Twitter, the United Nations will provide aid in accordance with the humanitarian principles that guide the work of the organization: humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence.

The Ukrainian authorities of the city of Mariúpol, in Donbass, confirmed on Sunday the opening of the humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of civilians.

The Donetsk government declared that the people will be transferred to the city of Zaporozhie, under the control of the Kiev troops, and the chosen route to that destination will function as a humanitarian corridor.

The authorities explained that the evacuees will be able to leave the city in private transport or as part of a column of buses provided by the municipality via the selected route and at established times.

The Russian Defense Ministry indicated for its part that humanitarian corridors and exit routes had been agreed with the Ukrainian side.

The decision, together with the ceasefire during the evacuation and the provision of food and medicine to the inhabitants of the areas where heavy fighting is taking place, were agreements reached in the last round of negotiations between representatives of Kiev and Moscow.

The next round of negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian sides is scheduled for Monday.
