(Prensa Latina) Former president of Bolivia Evo Morales accused today in a tweet the secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, of provoking the coup that overthrew him in November 2019.
“The presentation of the GIEI report to the OAS_official to certify with documentary and objective evidence the existence of massacres, summary executions, torture and illegal detentions during the de facto government is the unappealable proof of the coup that Almagro_OAS2015 provoked,” the former president wrote on twitter.
The leader of the Movement for Socialism thus joined from that social network those who highlighted this Thursday in Bolivia the meaning of the Report of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI-Bolivia), presented the day before to the Permanent Council of the OAS.
Regarding the document, the Bolivian ambassador to the OAS, Héctor Arce, confirmed that the Andean Amazonian country and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will sign an agreement to follow up on the recommendations of the GIEI-Bolivia on the coup d’état in 2019.
Recently, the United Nations special rapporteur for judicial independence, Diego García-Sayán, urged to prioritize the application of justice regarding the massacres committed by the de facto government in 2019.
After a week-long working visit to the Andean-Amazonian country, García-Sayán deplored that “after two years, the results of the investigation processes are scarce” and there are no sentences against the executors of massacres and other crimes.
