(Prensa Latina) Norway leads the medal table of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, after winning two gold medals in cross-country skiing and biathlon mixed relay.
The skier Therese Johaug of that country became the first champion of the event after winning the skiing event with a distance of 15 kilometers, in 44 minutes, 13 seconds and 7 tenths.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian mixed biathlon relay quartet also secured the gold medal with a time of 1:06:45.6 during the biathlon competition.
The third gold on Saturday went to the Netherlands’ Irene Schouten, who set a new world record (3:56.93) in the 3,000-meter speed skating event.
Apart from Norway and the Netherlands, the medal table has the Russian Olympic Committee (two) and France, Italy, Austria and Canada with one title each.
The qualifiers and heats of different sports continue on the first day of major activity at Beijing 2022, as only a few disciplines had started their trials prior to the opening of the event the day before.
