Chile’s President-elect participates in Parlandino session

(Prensa Latina) The president-elect of Chile, Gabriel Boric, participated today in the special session of the Andean Parliament (Parlandino), instance chaired by Chilean senator Juan Pablo Letelier.

Boric expressed his concern to those present because he considers that “the voice of Latin America has been fading in international forums, as a voice of peoples, as a strong voice as a result of the disagreements in which we have found ourselves in recent years,” quoted newspaper La Tercera.

He also expressed the conviction that similar instances of cooperation, “if taken seriously, as I have no doubt they are, can be a contribution to recovering a voice from the global south.”

Boric expressed that the Andean Community of Nations, in particular the Parlandino, unites peoples who have a history and a future together and therefore he is interested in strengthening this type of spaces.

The current deputy for Social Convergence said he agreed with Letelier in his interest that “ideological differences be considered a virtue rather than a problem and that we can coexist with the objective of raising our peoples in the global debate,” the source reported.

Likewise, the future president of Chile advocated acting “in community” in the forums and in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Letelier, for his part, pointed out that the Parlandino in recent times has concentrated its efforts on “legislative harmonization” among the countries that comprise it and steps are being taken to incorporate Argentina into the group.

This regional mechanism is made up of representatives from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
