Journalists Demand Justice for Murdered Colleagues in Mexico

The Mexican president ordered that a thorough investigation be carried out into the murder of the murdered journalists.

Hundreds of journalists and citizens mobilized this Tuesday in several cities in Mexico to demand justice for the murder of the 3 communicators murdered so far in 2022 (one in Veracruz and two in Tijuana, bordering the United States).

On January 10, José Luis Gamboa Arenas was assassinated in the state of Veracruz, on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico; on January 17 Margarito Martínez was shot and the previous Sunday Lourdes Maldonado was executed, these last homicides took place in Tijuana, in the state of Baja California.
One of the concentrations registered on Tuesday took place outside the Ministry of the Interior, in Mexico City, where protesters placed photographs of dozens of journalists killed in recent years and projected their images on the wall of the offices.

Around 148 journalists have been murdered since 2000 in Mexico, according to figures from international organizations

In this sense, President López Obrador said “we are going to carry out a thorough investigation. The difference, and it is an advantage, is that we do not allow impunity. Previously there were relationships of complicity, that was the government, a gang of criminals, not now”.
