The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) published the results of the National Survey of Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment (Enemdu), corresponding to the month of December 2021.
The unemployment rate was 4.1%. While gross employment stood at 60.8% in the urban area. For December 2021, the unemployment rate was 5.3% in the urban area and reached 1.8% in the rural area.
In addition, an average of 38 hours of work per week was recorded for men, while 31 hours per week for women. The figures also show that 50.6% of employed people were in the informal sector of the economy.
With respect to the year 2020, it is observed that the adequate employment rate in Ecuador had a significant variation, for example, in the urban sector in December 2020 adequate jobs were at 1,993,494, and at the end of 2021 they were at 2,340,774 .
While the unemployed went from 396,504, in December 2020, to 356,725 in December 2021.
