Ecuador broke a new record for violent crimes. As barely three weeks into the new year, these figures have already far exceeded the rates for the first weeks of 2021.
Until yesterday, Thursday, January 20, 2022, the National Police reported 180 murders, while in the same period last year the number of victims was 75.
States of emergency, military and police interventions in the streets of Guayaquil and multiple operations throughout the national territory were carried out throughout 2021 and, however, Los Ríos, Guayas and Manabí continue as the provinces with the highest rates of incidence in violent crimes, mainly in those under the contract killing modality.
The situation, according to official statistics, has only worsened, since in the first 15 days of this year alone, 33 murders were recorded in Guayaquil and according to the Police, 85% of the cases are related to settling scores. for drug trafficking and related crimes.
The authorities, for their part, have not made an official statement regarding these data and the security situation in the country, and during an interview for the newspaper El Comercio, the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Max Campos, was unable to point out the specific plans that the government and the ministry would be developing to combat this serious situation.
The truth is that new deaths are reported daily in the different cities of the country, the product of a crime that operates without restrictions and fear of Ecuadorian justice.
