China and Iran implement comprehensive cooperation agreement

(Prensa Latina) China and Iran implemented a comprehensive agreement that will expand cooperation in 14 sectors of economic importance, including energy, infrastructure, health and scientific-technical, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported today.

The plan was launched by Foreign Ministers Wang Yi and Hossein Amir Abdollahian after their talks on Friday in Jiangsu province, the Foreign Ministry said.

That pact that will run for 25 years, was first discussed in 2016 during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Iran and then signed last March.

The Foreign Ministry statement added that Wang expressed Beijing’s willingness to take advantage of the agreement to take bilateral cooperation to higher levels and also to supply more Covid-19 vaccines to Teheran.

Abdollahian also spoke in favor of promoting collaborative ties and assured that his country will play an active role in the construction of the Silk Road project, which is set to become a mega-platform for trade and infrastructure.

In addition, the parties agreed to maintain communication on the Iranian nuclear issue and other matters of interest in the Middle East.
