Ecuadorian migrants who survived the accident in Mexico will receive humanitarian visas

The National Migration Institute of Mexico (INM) confirmed that visitor cards for humanitarian reasons have been delivered to 73 migrant survivors of the accident that occurred in December 2021 in the state of Chiapas.

As indicated by the INM, the visitor card for humanitarian reasons provides its bearer with access to basic work, health and basic financial rights, however, it is valid for only one year and cannot be renewed.

The offer of this documentation was made by the Mexican foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, days after the news of the incident that took place on the Pan-American highway, in a section between Chiapa de Corzo and Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

The vehicle that came from the municipality of Comitán, on the border with Guatemala and that was speeding, got out of control, before hitting the wall of a pedestrian bridge and causing the death of 56 migrants and causing a large number of injuries. .

Due to this, the INM was in charge of covering the expenses of medical, funeral, lodging services, and processed migratory documents to allow their regular stay in Mexico.

Visas for humanitarian reasons, according to the report, were granted to 65 Guatemalans, 3 Dominicans, 3 Ecuadorians, a Honduran and a Colombian who managed to survive the harsh conditions of the trip and the subsequent accident.

Despite the fact that Mexico during last September, reactivated the mandatory visa application to enter its country, the migratory wave by Ecuadorians has not been completely reduced, since now they are looking for clandestine and less secure routes to enter. to the Aztec country, which continues to be the main bridge to the United States.
