(Prensa Latina) The Public Ministry of Peru informed on Monday that it had archived an accusation against President Pedro Castillo, which was one of the first judicial attempts at preventing his election as head of State.
The charges, submitted by Lawyer Yeni Vilcatoma, former right-wing congresswoman, was filed after Castillo won the first place in the 2021 elections, thus assuring his passage to the June voting, in which he defeated neoliberal candidate Keiko Fujimori.
The Public Ministry’s ruling provides that the case was definitively closed because none of the allegations constitutes a crime or guarantees the initiation of criminal proceedings.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office considered that “the denounced act does not constitute a crime, it is not criminally justifiable and it is not appropriate to formalize and continue with the preparatory investigation.”
Vilcatoma, who is linked to Fujimori, accused Castillo of crimes against the administration of justice, false statements, against public faith and forgery, all to the detriment of the State.
The lawyer claimed that the current president was listed as manager of a company, information that he was not included in the resume submitted to the electoral authorities, about his assets and activities.
In response to the accusation, the then candidate explained that the investment company was part of a business project that never worked, for which he considered it extinguished
