(Prensa Latina) The president of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, said today that the constitutional order was restored in almost all regions of the country and the local authorities are in control of the situation.
He declared that the anti-terrorist operation will continue until the total defeat of those involved in destabilizing actions, who continue to attack security forces with weapons and damage property, according to a statement of the presidential press service.
Tokayev took part in a meeting of the Operational Headquarters of the Republic for the fight against terrorism together with the acting interior and defense ministers, as well as the chairman of the National Security Committee.
At the session it was reported that troops from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) arrived in the Asian nation to help restore order.
According to the Kazakh news agency Tengrinews, under the red terrorist threat level, the country’s security services are authorized to conduct searches, inspect belongings and vehicles, as well as temporarily restrict or prohibit the movement of transport or people.
In addition, it allows law enforcement to enter homes and other premises without warrant and to monitor communications an information transmitted through telecommunications systems.
According to local media, the most difficult situation continues to be reported in Almaty, the former capital of the country, where clashes continue between law enforcement and those involved in the demonstrations.
