Jobless benefits on the rise in the United States

(Prensa Latina) Jobless benefits in the United States given last week increased and are expected to maintain an upward trend in the coming weeks, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 315,469 in the week ending January 1, an increase of 57,599 (or 22.3%) from the previous week. The seasonal factors had expected an increase of 50,464 (or 19.6%) from the previous week. There were 898,610 initial claims in the comparable week in 2021.
