In Ecuador, 30 violent deaths were reported in the first four days of the year 2022

These figures are higher, when compared to the same period in 2021.

The National Police reported that in the first four days of the year 30 cases of violent deaths were already reported throughout the country, this is a higher figure if the same time interval as the previous year is compared. According to the authorities, this increase is attributed to drug trafficking and the confrontation between criminal gangs.

Erick Benítez, head of the National Directorate for Crimes against Life, Violent Deaths, Disappearances, Extortion and Kidnappings (DINASED), assured that the National Police are already working on this situation, in order to articulate efforts with other specialized directorates and combat these criminal groups.

In the same way, the Police pointed out that in 2021 210 tons of drugs were seized and linked this with the growing wave of violence that has been experienced in the country, for several months, and even asserted that this has been reflected in more than 300 murders of persons deprived of liberty (PPL) between gangs that disputed control of the prisons.

For her part, the general commander of the Police, Tannya Varela, explained that of the 210 tons of drugs that were seized, 96 were seized in Guayaquil, the epicenter of the wave of violence and where Varela announced the deployment of some 200 troops who will be assigned exclusively to the investigation of crimes.
