Ecuador registers at least 43 violent deaths in seven days; twice as many cases compared to the same date in 2021.
The most violent cities in which the majority of these murders have been recorded are Guayaquil, Daule, El Oro, Manabí and Los Ríos. Only in Guayaquil, until this Friday, January 7, at least 17 deaths are counted. But these homicides are more than just numbers.
The last report of a death occurred in the Main Port, on 33rd Street and Captain Nájera, where a 10-year-old boy died, after being hit with a bullet from a rifle, in the middle of a shooting, in which another child and a woman were seriously injured.
This Thursday, January 6, in the Flor de Bastión sector, also in Guayaquil, alleged hitmen killed a 35-year-old man who was in a barber shop with 22 bullets. The business owner and another customer were injured.
In other sectors of Guayaquil and Guayas cantons such as: El Triunfo, Balzar, Guasmo, Via Daule, Flor del Norte, homicides have also been reported in recent days.
The National Police has expressed its concern about this number of murders in a few days in 2022 and according to the authorities, the majority of homicides are related to drug trafficking and organized crime.
Carlos Oporto, an expert in data management, has revealed that, according to his records, in all of 2021 there were 2,471 homicides; while until January 5 there were already 42 violent deaths nationwide, with an upward trend in the number of murders
