(Prensa Latina) The presidents of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, and of Russia, Vladimir Putin, agreed on the importance of intensifying efforts and coordination to resolve the crisis in Libya, an official source reported.
A statement from the spokesman for the Egyptian Executive, Bassam Rady, said that both leaders held a telephone conversation, which covered, among other points, the Libyan issue and bilateral ties.
During the dialogue, the Presidents emphasized the need to “combat armed militias and terrorist organizations, and put an end to illegal foreign interference in Libyan affairs.”
Due to the lack of agreements and the increase in tension, the authorities of Libya postponed the elections that were to be held last Friday, which caused concern in the international community due to the fear of a new escalation that would lead to the restart of the civil war.
Al-Sisi and Putin also agreed to strengthen ties between the two nations and highlighted in regards to it the construction in Egypt of a nuclear plant with Russian technology.
The facility, expected to come into operation in 2026, will have four VVER-1200 pressurized water reactors, each with a power output of 1,200 megawatts.
This was the second telephone conversation between the two leaders in just over a month.
