Terrorist network implicated in 13 attacks in Damascus dismantled

(Prensa Latina) Syrian security forces announced the capture of seven terrorists who are member of a secret network that launched 13 attacks that killed dozens of people in Damascus and its surroundings.

In confessions broadcast on national television, the captured extremists admitted to having carried out attacks against employees and military and civilian figures, after monitoring their movements and planting explosives with timers in their vehicles.

The last of these attacks was in November, when two explosives destroyed a bus, claiming the lives of 14 workers from the Military Housing Company.

The terrorists revealed to have received instructions from leaders of the Organization for the Liberation of the Levant, formerly al-Nusrah Front, included in the international terrorism list; however, they created a fictitious group under the name of Saraya Qasioun to claim responsibility for these attacks on social networks.

The detainees, including a woman, come from the city of Damascus and various towns around it, and their ages range from 30 to 37 years old.

A series of targeted attacks with explosives occurred in and around the capital Damascus in 2019, 2020 and 2021, claiming the lives of prominent figures, including the Mufti of Damascus, Adnan al-Afiumi, and the mayor of Qudsaya, Nabil Razmeh, among others.
