Hundreds of US flights canceled on Christmas Eve due to omicron surge

(Prensa Latina) United, Delta and other US airlines have canceled nearly 600 Christmas Eve flights as a surge in omicron variant of Covid-19 cases impacts their staff, the airlines said.

The world´s largest flight tracking platform FlightAware reported that Delta Air Lines cut 127 flights on Friday, while United Airlines cut 169.

According to a United memorandum, cited by CNN, the increased omicron infections this week “had a direct impact on our crews and people who run our operation.”

However, millions of citizens harp on their Christmas Eve trips in spite of the increased Covid-19 cases reported nationwide.

FlightAware reported about 2.19 million people in airports across the country, the highest number since the rebound in trips for Christmas Eve in the last seven days
