Venezuela reports 7 Omicron variant cases

(Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros on Wednesday confirmed the detection of seven positive omicron variant cases.

Among cases, it has been reported a 20-year-old girl who arrived on December 13 from Panama; a 32-year-old woman from Barquisimeto who arrived from Istanbul; two young people from the Dominican Republic and a 54-year-old woman who arrived in Venezuela on December 12.

The Venezuelan president said that it was inevitable omicron variant would reach the country, because in neighboring countries such as Colombia and Brazil cases have been detected several weeks ago.

“The best defense against omicron is to reach 90% of vaccinated people for coming December 31,” Maduro urged.

Maduro urged the unvaccinated population to go to health and vaccination centers to be immunized.
