(Prensa Latina) A wildfire is today affecting the mangrove area of the Punta Cana tourist destination, in eastern Dominican Republic, in the province of La Altagracia.
Diario Libre reported that the director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), Juan Manuel Mendez, said that the fire started the day before and so far they do not know the causes.
About 18 firefighters units, supported by water trucks and a helicopter, joined the operation to prevent the spread of the flames.
Likewise, Mendez explained that they are waiting for the arrival of a brigade of the Army and of the Environment to put an end to the fire, but it is under control, although he assured that the affected area is “quite big”.
