Migrants ask Lopez Obrador for support to proceed to US

(Prensa Latina) Representatives of the migrant caravan were received on Thursday by the director of Citizen Attention at the Presidency of Mexico, Leticia Ramirez, from whom they demanded support to proceed to the United States.

Before 7:00 am, the time when President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s traditional morning conference begins, a commission of 12 people arrived at the National Palace, where they were received by the official, to whom they conveyed their interest in the President’s intervention to help them.

The caravan members are in Mexico City and are staying at the Pilgrim’s House in the Basilica of Guadalupe.

After the brief interview was over, they left the Zocalo to the headquarters of the Interior Ministry, on Bucarelli Avenue, to present the same demands. In a separate appearance, Lopez Obrador affirmed that his government protects and rescues migrants in order to prevent tragedies, such as the one in Chiapas last week.

He underlined that he has long warned – inside and outside – about the risks of allowing the advance of people towards northern Mexico.

He warned that when the time comes, Mexicans living in the United States will be called upon to not support the party that votes against President Joe Biden’s initiative to regularize the immigration status of 11 million compatriots.

He recalled that the Mexican community is made up of 38 million people, and stressed that the United States is about to issue a communiqué to condemn Mexican criminals and drug traffickers.
