Once on December 8, the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, could not speak due to an allergy to explain to the Assembly’s Right to Health Commission the reports on the lack of medicines in public hospitals for patients with catastrophic, rare or orphan diseases, as well as the measures implemented to stop the increase in Covid-19 infections, is expected to do so this week.
The minister will also have to answer about the actions that will be implemented before the omicron variant that already exists in the world.
Although on December 8, the legislative board received the Secretary of State, she could not speak due to her discomfort, so the president of the commission, Marcos Molina (ID), announced that in the next seven or ten days, the Minister of Health will be received again.
The request to the commission comes after Garzón admitted that “health is sick due to lack of drugs” and because of the announcement made about the purchase of 200 types of drugs for the hospitals of the Ministry of Public Health and the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS).
The new government purchase plan will have an investment of USD 30 million by the MSP. Meanwhile, the IESS will allocate USD 20 million.
