The delegation of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) entered the Latacunga Prison to verify the prison crisis in Ecuador and to visit the former Vice President of the Republic, Jorge Glas.
The IACHR will try to dialogue with the former president and verify whether the precautionary measures that were issued in his favor in 2009 are being carried out, since he suffers from various diseases that drastically deteriorate his health.
Legislators José Vallejo, Patricia Núñez and Xavier Jurado, members of the Assembly’s Commission for Sovereignty and National Integration, also attended this visit.
José Vallejo pointed out that the precautionary measures issued by the IACHR in 2019 to protect the rights of Jorge Glas have not been fulfilled at all, in the same way, Jurado indicated to this body that Jorge Glas meets all the requirements to receive the pre-release.
On the other hand, legislator Patricia Núñez announced that she hopes that the sentences will be unified to allow the former vice president to regain his freedom.
