Washington, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) President Joe Biden has issued new travel restrictions for South Africa and seven other nations beginning Monday due to Omicron, highly transmissible variant of concern, which has caused widespread alarm and shakes global market. Although there are no Omicron reports in the United States so far, the President Joe Biden administration is currently trying to limit Omicron spread and tries to make a difference with his predecessor Donald Trump, much criticized for his chaotic response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
President Biden will reveal an updated information on the epidemiological context over the threat of this new variant, of which much is unknown about its transmissibility and effectiveness of present vaccines to protect from it.
Here there is a wide debate about US government’s responses to the pandemic and in not a few states, mainly led by Republicans, the mandatory immunization and wearing face mask are questioned.
According to the Bloomberg News Global Vaccine Tracker, 69.7% of US people has received a dose against Covid-19 and 59.1% has been fully vaccinated.
Omicron comes as the world moves towards an opening after over 20 months of the pandemic.
