The ex-president assured that he would only be out of the country for 90 days for family and academic reasons.
The Plenary of the National Assembly approved a resolution that provides for the immediate return of the former President of the Republic, Lenín Moreno to the country. This initiative was proposed by the UNES legislator, Fausto Jarrín, which was supported with 100 votes.
Jarrín stated that Moreno did not inform the National Assembly of his decision to remain outside the country and is flagrantly breaching the constitutional rule, taking into account that the 90 days of absence, which was communicated to the legislature on August 18, ended ago six days.
In the same way, he asked that this resolution be notified to the State Prosecutor’s Office and the Comptroller’s Office because Lenín Moreno has several processes under investigation.
The Plenary also ordered that a copy of this resolution be sent to the State Comptroller General, through the General Secretariat of the National Assembly, in order to report the actions it has taken against the former president due to the “notorious breach of both the economic and social goals, as well as the objectives established in the National Development Plan ”.
Similarly, the resolution will also be sent to the State Attorney General’s Office and the Organization of American States (OAS) for their knowledge and analysis.
At the moment, former President Moreno works as a professor at the University of Florida, in the leadership program. In the country he has two processes open, one for the INA Papers case and the other for alleged crimes against humanity in the October 2019 strike.
