Madrid, Nov 19 (Prensa Latina) The Second Vice President and Minister of Labor and Social Economy of Spain, Yolanda Diaz, on Friday praised Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva as a reference of social justice and world democracy.
In a brief contact with the press before meeting with the former Brazilian president at a hotel in this capital, Diaz stressed her great satisfaction for the meeting with Lula da Silva, whom she also described as an absolute defender of human rights.
The vice-president is a member of the Communist Party of Spain and Unidas Podemos.
During the morning, President Pedro Sanchez reiterated the “commitment and solidarity” with the health recovery of all Latin America and the Caribbean in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, when he met with Lula da Silva.
The historic leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) was received at the Moncloa Palace by the president, who mentioned the sending of medical material to Brazil, the second country in the world with the highest number of deaths from Covid-19.
In an official statement, Sanchez stressed that during the dialogue with Lula da Silva they discussed the pandemic situation, climate change and economic recovery.
“It is essential to implement quick and effective actions to face this challenge, particularly in view of the increase in deforestation in the Amazon,” he said and assessed the strong ties between Spain and Brazil.
Tomorrow Saturday, Lula will meet with the current leader of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, at a forum on popular alliances, in which former Vice-President Pablo Iglesias will also participate.
