402,309 students, who are part of technical and rural high schools nationwide, will return, in a presence, to the classrooms from next Monday, November 22, 2021, with 100% capacity in educational institutions.
This after the National COE approved the Plan for Safe Return to Face-to-Face Classes presented by the Ministry of Education. However, the State portfolio clarified that this return is mandatory only for establishments that have approved operating permits in person.
The age group of the students who will return to face-to-face classes includes young people between 15 and 17 years old. In total, 402,309 students are expected to return to the institutions.
On December 6 it will be the turn for the second group. With the exception of the schools and colleges in Quito that will return from 07. In this case, these are urban high school students and those of basic general education: 8th, 9th and 10th. In total, one million 872 thousand 111 adolescents are expected to return to the classroom.
The return for this group will depend on the fact that in each canton there is 85% of the vaccinated population between 12 and 17 years old.
The third group will return to face-to-face classes on January 17, 2022 and is focused on students from initial to basic education, from five to eleven years old.
It is expected that up to this date, in each canton, 85% of boys and girls of these ages will be vaccinated; otherwise, said the Minister of Education, the return will be postponed.
Finally, a fourth group of initial education students, ages 3 and 4, would return to classrooms, depending on the progress of the vaccination plan, so the authorities did not establish an exact date for their return.
What parameters must the institutions meet for the return in person?
The Minister of Education explained that the schools must have signage, temporary isolation spaces, infrastructure that guarantees the safety of students, respect the distance and guarantee the mandatory use of a mask.
Percentage of vaccination in the educational population
Brown reported that 77.01% of children ages 12 and 17, nationwide, have already received the first dose; while 42.53% have the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccines.
On the other hand, 42.37% of children between 5 and 11 have already received their first dose.
