Ecuador registers 55 cases of femicide in 2021

From August 2014, until October 31, 2021, there were 506 fatalities under this crime.

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) presented the data registered under the crime of femicide until October 2021.

According to article 141 of the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code (COIP), the person who, “as a result of power relations manifested in any type of violence, kills a woman for the fact of being one or for her gender condition, will be punished with imprisonment of twenty-two to twenty-six years ”.

The document indicates that since the crime was typified in 2014, there have been 506 fatalities. In addition, Guayas, with 98 cases, and Pichincha, with 89, are the provinces where more tragedies have been registered.

Another alarming fact is that 174 cases of femicide were committed by the woman’s partner. 83 cases, the spouse and 81 the ex-partner. The victims, in most cases, range from 15 to 44 years.
