President of Ecuador considers that Spain should not apologize for the invasion and conquest of America

The President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, during his visit to Spain, participated in the “ABC Spain-Ecuador Forum: Thinking the S-XXI”, where he had a talk with former Spanish President José María Aznar.

In this talk, the President assured that he does not believe that Spain should apologize for what happened during the colonization and conquest of America. “That is against nature. I do not participate in those ideas ”, he pointed out.

In the same way, he compared the conquest to a son who goes to his mother to ask for forgiveness for a scolding or for some “blows”.

“Saying that Spain has to apologize to us is like going to your mom and saying, ‘Hey Mom, you’re going to have to apologize because you hit me and I’m going to write a new story where you didn’t breastfeed, what you were he is a bad person with me ”.

It should be remembered that in 2019, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador wrote a letter to the Spanish monarch, Felipe VI, in which he asked Spain to apologize for the invasion that led to the conquest of America, the massacres and many arbitrariness that were committed 500 years ago “with the sword and with the cross.”

On the other hand, in another formal ceremony, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, assured that she will provide institutional collaboration and advice to the management of President Guillermo Lasso.
