Cairo, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) Egyptian Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad urged developed countries to fulfill their promise to allot $100 billion per year to back up climate actions on less favored nations.
According to the ministry, Fouad’s statements came during the Second Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Ministerial Conference on Environment and Climate Change.
Ms. Fouad recalled that in 2009 the richest countries promised such an amount, but to date they have failed.
Funding to fight climate change and technology transfer is a necessity, she said.
Referring to Egypt’s work on this matter, she said that half of state projects will be green by 2024.
Egypt was candidate to host the 27th session of the UN Conference on Climate Change in 2022.
Ministers from the organization’s 42 member states attended the meeting, co-chaired by Jordan and the European Union.
