Chilean candidate asks to fight fake news

Santiago de Chile, Oct 27 (Prensa Latina) The leftist candidate to the Palacio de La Moneda Gabriel Boric on Wednesday asked the Chilean National Television Association to implement a system to fight fake news during presidential debates.

In a letter sent to the association, Mr. Boric laid stress on the need for both television channels and candidates to have a special team to check data.

‘That is a practice that has been conducted in other elections around the world,’ the presidential candidate stated.

Boric insisted on the need for the exchange of ideas among presidential candidates to be honest and for the citizenship to be given real information that contribute to informing and not the opposite.

The last debate among the seven candidates for the Presidency will take place on November 15, six days earlier the elections to elect the president, lawmakers, senators and regional councilors.

Boric, who is leading the polls along with representative of the ultra-right Jose Antonio Kast, suggested spending some time on TV to clear up inaccuracies and falsehoods mentioned in the encounter.

The purpose -he said- is ‘to put an end to that deceitful, dishonest way of doing politics, which only harms the citizenship, by distorting a conversation so necessary for the future of our country.’
