Buenos Aires, Oct 28 (Prensa Latina) Former Argentine President Mauricio Macri again claimed on Thursday to be politically persecuted and criticized the summons to questioning in a stage set up near the court where he went to testify for alleged espionage.
After two attempts to summon Judge Martin Bava, to whom the former president, through an appeal that was denied, asked to be removed from the case and pointed out that he was incompetent, Macri appeared on the stage together with political allies of his alliance Juntos por el Cambio (Together for Change), before entering the courthouse in the city of Dolores, Buenos Aires.
With little attendance, less than expected, the former governor took the floor to accuse the national government of ‘using a tragedy to damage’ the opposition.
In this case of espionage scandal under his administration, one of several open cases, the former president is being investigated by the intelligence services for following the relatives of the victims of the ARA San Juan submarine, which disappeared in 2017.
Macri, who claims that he did not commit any espionage, will have to account for whether tasks were carried out to avoid problems in his contacts with relatives of the crew members of the submarine, as well as in his visits to Mar del Plata, where relatives were waiting for news.
Almost upon entering the courtroom, after his speech, the former president launched two messages on his social networks: ‘If they think that with their attacks, disqualifications, slander and their permanent obsession with me they will diminish my commitment with the Argentine people and with the defense of our values, they are very wrong.
