President of Ecuador decrees a state of exception throughout the country to combat crime

The security crisis that the country is going through and that detonated with the murder of a 14-year-old boy in the south of Guayaquil forced the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, to decree a state of exception throughout the national territory, due to serious shock internal.

This was announced on the national chain, on the night of this Monday, October 18, 2021. With the state of exception, which will last 60 days, the president ordered the mobilization of the Armed Forces and the national Police in the streets of Ecuador, especially in the provinces with the highest rate of violence: El Oro, Guayas, Santa Elena, Pichincha, Manabí, Los Ríos, Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo and Sucumbíos.

Likewise, the Head of State announced the creation of the Legal Defense Unit of the Public Force, an entity that will be dedicated to the protection of members of the Police and the Armed Forces who are legally sued.

Among other measures that the president anticipated is the pardon of all members of the public force who have been sentenced for having fulfilled their work, for which he called on the judges of the judicial function to guarantee “peace and justice. order”.

Meanwhile, Lasso reported that he will send, to the National Assembly, a new bill to support all law enforcement officers, called the Law of Defense of the Duty of the Public Force.

Finally, an Inter-Institutional Committee will be created between all the ministries of the social front and the Secretariat of Human Rights to prevent, stop addiction and reintegrate consumers into society.
