Vaccination with the third or booster dose is already underway in Ecuador. The Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, announced this Wednesday, October 20, that the application of these third formulas began with all health personnel in the country.
In a discussion with the media, the Secretary of State explained that the vaccines are being applied at the different inoculation points and explained that for this process they have been divided into two phases.
Those who received the second dose between February and April of this year will be vaccinated this month; while health personnel who received the second vaccine since May will be inoculated from next month.
Garzón clarified that these booster doses are not mandatory and specified that this sector of the population is receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine, regardless of whether they have received the Pfizer or Sinovac doses in the past months.
She indicated that the Ministry of Health has the list of all health professionals and servants to apply these booster doses of AstraZeneca and assured that the country has enough doses to vaccinate these people.
In addition, she anticipated that in the coming months all adults over 65 with aggravating diseases will be vaccinated, also with a third dose.
Regarding the vaccination of children between 3 to 5 years old, the minister explained that the Advisory Commission on Immunization Practices (CAPI) is analyzing the possibility of applying doses of Sinovac to this sector of the population.
