Port-au-Prince, Oct 14 (Prensa Latina) The leader of the Pitit Dessalines party, Moïse Jean Charles, on Thursday said that Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry must resign if he cannot restore security. Jean Charles stressed that the prime minister will have to form a new Electoral Council and improve the living conditions of the hundreds of thousands of victims of the August 14 earthquake, or he will have to resign, he told Magiko.
At least 800,000 people need assistance after the 7.2 earthquake on the Richter scale that hit the southern region of the country and killed 2,217 people, injured more than 12,700 and destroyed or affected hundreds of thousands of homes and 70 percent of its educational infrastructure.
For its part, the climate of insecurity has considerably deteriorated, with more than 600 kidnappings so far this year, and hundreds of murders especially since June, when armed gangs displaced more than 19,000 people from poor neighborhoods.
The leftist leader also favored the fusion of the different national agreements sponsored by the government, the civil society and legislators, aimed at solving the current crisis.
Henry presented a consensus, to which, he assures, more than 500 socio-political organizations joined, and which postpones the election until the second half of 2022 and proposes a new Constitution.
Meanwhile, the civil society proposed a major transition to restructure state institutions, the creation of a control body and an election after two years of establishing the transitional government.
