Port-au-Prince, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) Today, former Justice Minister Lucmame Délile denounced that the passivity of the police has brought about an increase in kidnappings and insecurity, all this due to complicity between the gangs and the authorities
The former official, who was dismissed in July 2020 in the midst of the upsurge of armed gangs in the capital, assured that he was the object of a vast conspiracy to expel him from the Ministry of Justice and to assassinate President Jovenel Moïse.
In the last quarter, kidnapping cases increased by 300 percent, and in September alone the Center for Analysis and Research on Human Rights reported 117 kidnappings for ransom, although the figure may be even higher.
Last Monday, gangs operating in Martissant, at the southern exit of Port-au-Prince, blocked the traffic and cut off the only road to the four southern departments.
On the same day, several protest movements against kidnappings were registered in the neighborhoods of Delmas and Montagne Noire, following the detention of at least five persons over the weekend.
Also on Monday, a bus traveling on the Carrefour-Rails route was attacked by armed individuals in Martissant, resulting in the wounding of at least four people, according to local media.
Recently, before the United Nations Security Council, the representative of this international organization in Haiti, Helen La Lime, described the situation in the country as gloomy after the assassination of the president, the earthquake, the increase in crime and armed gangs, in addition to the political and health crisis.
