The former candidate for the Presidency of Ecuador, Andrés Arauz, asked the United Nations to request the necessary guarantees for the development of the investigation on the “Pandora Papers”, which involve President Guillermo Lasso.
On his Twitter account, Arauz called the UN in Ecuador, his office against Drugs and Crime in Ecuador and his Peruvian counterpart to request guarantees of security, independence and impartiality.
The idea, according to Arauz, is that under these premises, the Director of the Internal Revenue Service (SRI), Marisol Andrade, and the head of the Financial and Economic Analysis Unit (UAFE), Carla Mera, can investigate the “Pandora Papers ”.
The President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, was named in the “Pandora Papers”, a worldwide journalistic investigation, which detected that the President maintained offshore companies in tax havens.
Although the President has assured that these companies were dissolved before starting his presidential candidacy, the Ecuadorian Assembly delegated the investigation to a commission to investigate the matter.
