After the National Agricultural Assembly held on October 2, the leaders of the different organizations resolved to call a national strike in the agricultural sector, in the absence of an agrarian agenda.
Although a date for this strike was not announced, the objective of the strike is to raise awareness about the impact of food shortages.
Agricultural leaders from the Costa, Sierra and Amazonia participated in this meeting, held in Tungurahua, who also agreed that the low prices of farm products are the main problem.
Faced with this, they proposed creating the National Agricultural Marketing System (collection centers, fairs, peasant markets, community businesses, town supermarkets).
They demanded that the State sanction companies that raise the prices of agricultural inputs, as well as demand that the Government and Decentralized Autonomous Governments comply with the laws within the framework of Food Sovereignty.
Another of the resolutions of this sector was to demand the right to land, for which they anticipated that the dispossession of territories that are being besieged by mining or oil companies will not be allowed.
Among other decisions, the leaders considered it necessary to stop smuggling, guarantee the Basic Basket at 50% in coordination with the neighborhoods and public institutions and vindicate the rights of rural women due to their importance for Food Sovereignty.
