Kabul, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), on Tuesday met in Kabul with Afghan Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, at the Presidential Palace.
The meeting was also attended by Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Deborah Lyons, Afghanistan’s acting Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Baradar and Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Motaqi, Khaama Press reported.
Afghanistan’s interim Government has not yet disclosed the details of the meeting.
The source noted that Adhanom arrived in Afghanistan to achieve a coordination among health administrations and to renew WHO assistance.
According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), one million children in Afghanistan suffer from severe acute malnutrition over the course of this year and could die without a proper treatment.
Following the Taliban’s takeover, Afghanistan is facing a humanitarian crisis and is in desperate need of international assistance.
