Rome, Sep 23 (Prensa Latina) The Italian Senate definitively approved on Thursday the reform of the criminal procedure law.
The initiative, promoted by Minister of Grace and Justice, Marta Cartabia, and Prime Minister Mario Draghi, was approved by the senators with 177 votes for, 24 against and no abstentions, after being passed by the Chamber of Deputies on August 3.
The amendment of the criminal procedure law is a key element to ensure the arrival to Italy of European Union assistance funds to finance the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, through the ‘NextGenerationEU’ mechanism.
The reform includes aspects such as trial length, the statutes of limitations on crimes and the severity of punishments for crimes considered serious due to their social impact, among others
