Iran demands total lifting of US oppressive measures

Tehran, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) Iran on Wednesday demanded the total and verifiable lifting of the oppressive measures imposed by the United States, which have lead the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or nuclear agreement to a crisis.

The Iranian representative at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Kazem Gharibabadi, affirmed that the newly installed government in Tehran seeks effective negotiations with tangible results.

Gharibabadi’s statements came at the plenary session of the IAEA Board of Governors on Wednesday.

In any case, Tehran expects to get guarantees that the United States will not violate the nuclear agreement or abuse the mechanism stipulated in that pact again.

Washington has not yet shown good will to remove its sanctions, despite electoral promises from US President Joe Biden, he stressed.

Iran and the rest of the JCPOA signatories held six rounds of talks in Vienna, Austria, now on pause, with the aim of reactivating the agreement that the United States abandoned.

Following its withdrawal in May 2018, the White House reimposed anti-Iran measures, to which authorities from the Persian nation responded by reducing several of their nuclear commitments.

However, Iran’s stand to reverse the original multilateral consent remains, if the other signatories, including the United States, do so.
