Capitol police ask Pentagon for manpower support ahead of J6 rally

Washington, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) The Department of Defense said Wednesday it is reviewing a request from the Capitol Police for assistance ahead of a rally on Saturday calling for the release of Capitol riot defendants, which some on the Hill fear could devolve into violence.

Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby confirmed the Capitol´s request during a briefing in which he did not give details about how many manpower supports the Capitol requested, only saying that ‘it is not an exorbitant ask but is still under review.’

Capitol police installed temporary high-tech security cameras to get a broader view of the building and erected a six-foot fence around.

With these measures, security agents and lawmakers want to avoid a new violent attack as happened on Jan. 6, after Trump’s insistent and false claims of electoral fraud.

Saturday’s rally aims to show support for those serving time for their link to the J6 riots, in which five people died including a police officer.
