The President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, reviewed the main advances in the processes of identity and regularization of the migrant population in Ecuador together with representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (Acnur) and the International Organization for Migrations (IOM) for the Americas and Venezuela.
Luis Vayas, Deputy Minister of Human Mobility, insisted that in the first phase an important group of Venezuelan citizens will be regularized.
“Regularization is important, but more important is their reintegration into Ecuadorian society at a social level, but also at a productive level,” he stressed.
For his part, the joint special representative of UNHCR and IOM for migrants and refugees from Venezuela, Eduardo Stein, reiterated the support of the organizations “for the efforts that the Government is making.”
“It is not only a process of regularization and documentation, but it is accompanied by processes of socioeconomic integration of this population,” he said.
Stein, on another topic, described as “refreshing for the region” the work that Ecuador has done in the first days of Government.
“Our recognition and congratulations for all the spectacular advances that have been achieved in a few months in Ecuador, on the subject of vaccination, which is a subject of continental envy,” he celebrated.
