Panama, Sep 4 (Prensa Latina) Magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) of Panama denounced at the Attorney General’s Office the suspicious release by a court of an alleged drug capo, already recaptured and held on Sunday under maximum security.
The president of the CSJ, Luis Ramon Fabrega, and the president of the Criminal Chamber of the same body, Maria Eugenia Lopez, presented to the Attorney General, Javier Caraballo, a criminal complaint against a judicial servant or any other person, for the release of Jose Cossio, without serving the sentence imposed.
‘The magistrates of the Court have been showing in a very clear and forceful manner the will to have any irregular situation that questions the transparency and rectitude of those of us who administer justice on behalf of the Republic investigated,’ Lopez told the press.
On its Twitter account, the Attorney General’s Office confirmed that it will follow up the criminal complaint to investigate the irregularities presented, consisting in the fact that through a Sept.16, 2020 official communication of the Judicial Body, the release of the prisoner was ordered after a request of the defense to commute the sanction.
At the same time, the Attorney General’s Office and the police are reporting strong operations against mafia networks with transnational links with the participation of middle-ranking officials, but in a veiled way they hint that, at the courts, victims and lawyers sometimes have denounced alleged sales of rulings.
