US Secretary of State to testify before Senate panel

Washington, Sep 7 (Prensa Latina) Secretary of State Antony Blinken will appear before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on September 14 to testify on what happened in Afghanistan, a spokesman announced on Tuesday.

The head of US diplomacy will be questioned by the panel about the withdrawal of his country’s forces from the Central Asian nation.

This is the first public hearing scheduled with administration officials since late August, when the government of Joe Biden was astonished by the rapid collapse of the Afghan Government and army, and the Taliban’s advance into Kabul, the capital, The Hill informed about the hearing.

Blinken is the only witness currently listed for the hearing, and a spokesman for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee would not announce that other officials will appear.

Senate Republicans on the Foreign Relations Committee have been reportedly pushing for a public hearing with Blinken.
