A productive telephone conversation was held this Sunday, August 29, by the presidents of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, and of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, in order to promote bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, according to the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry.
President Lasso conveyed to his Chinese counterpart his gratitude for the direct efforts made for the supply of vaccines, which has contributed decisively to continue advancing towards the planned goal of immunizing nine million Ecuadorians in the first 100 days of Government, points to information.
The future signing of a free trade agreement was also a substantive part of the dialogue, which would stimulate and diversify the commercial relationship and generate more employment and development for Ecuador. The dialogue expressed the desire to start the corresponding bilateral negotiations as soon as possible.
The Ecuadorian president raised the possibility of analyzing new formats of economic cooperation, to improve the financing conditions from China to Ecuador, within a framework of respect and mutual benefit.
Xi highlighted the excellent level of the bilateral relationship, thanks to the importance that both countries attach to the Comprehensive Strategic Association, signed between Ecuador and China for the management of their relations at the highest level, and expressed his support for the presence of a significant Chinese investment, in sectors that are of interest for the development of Ecuador, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both presidents highlighted the existing level of coordination in the most important international forums, on issues of global interest such as support for multilateralism, the fight against Covid-19, fishing on the high seas, mitigation of climate change, the fight against poverty, the fight against corruption, the Celac-China dialogue, among others, says the bulletin of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
