No children injured by fire and blasts at Kazakh military facility

(Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan informed on Friday that no children have been injured in the fire and subsequent blasts in the warehouse of a military unit in Zhambyl region.

Education authorities explained that 83 children were evacuated from the area of the incident, to whom conditions were created in places to sleep, with food and medicines, the Committee on Protection of Children’s Rights at that Ministry stated.

A fire broke out on Thursday at 19:00 hours, local time, near one of the warehouses in the military unit stationed in the Bayzak district, of the Zhambyl region, in southern Kazakhstan, TASS news agency reported.

The fire caused more than 10 explosions of unidentified objects, which are being extinguished by firefighters and the Emergency Department of that territory, while the causes of the disaster are being investigated.

As a result of the fire, five soldiers died and, due to the seriousness of the incident, the Government decided to evacuate the residents of nearby villages.
