Spain will donate 101,760 doses of AstraZeneca to Ecuador

The Covax initiative, the Spanish government, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals and different Latin American countries agreed to deliver 7.5 million doses of vaccines against Covid-19. Ecuador will be one of the first countries to benefit from this arrival, scheduled for today of 101,760 doses.

The delivery process will begin with 750,000 vaccines for all of Latin America. The beneficiary countries are: Ecuador and Peru will receive 101,760 doses, respectively; Paraguay will obtain 252,000 vaccines; Guatemala will benefit from 201,600 injectables; and in Nicaragua 97,920 injections will be distributed, as reported by the Government of Spain in a statement.

The distribution of the vaccines is designed according to the epidemiological need of each country, in addition to the coordinated actions of the members of Covax, which are part of the United Nations, the Pan American Health Organization and Unicef. The distribution will occur according to the government of Spain provides the doses for the mechanism.

Spain is analyzing the donation of the doses together with the European Union (EU) and its member states. At the moment, the budget for this operation is 2.47 billion euros for Covax.

The objective of these decisions is to vaccinate 20% of the population of the 190 nations that are part of the initiative before the end of the year.
