Several roads remain blocked in Ecuador due to the stoppages announced by various social sectors for this August 11. Rice growers, banana growers, social organizations, workers and teachers began with a national demonstration, due to the lack of attention of the National Government to their proposals.
At the moment, the roads that remain closed are: Naranjal, at the entrance to the Roldós; El Triunfo, in the ring of the Micos; Samborondón, via al Pan; Freedom; the Nobol ring road, the Daule – Santa Lucía road and the Balao road, according to information from the Ecuadorian Transit Commission (CTE).
The protesters used trucks, tractors, sacks of rice, fruits, and burning tires to block the roads since early morning. They ask that a fair price be paid for their products, in addition, they demand that the Government repeal decrees 1054, 1158 and 1183 that increase the cost of fuels, control the price of fertilizers, the constitutionality of the reforms to the Law. Orgánica de Educación (LOEI), the reopening of the Storage Unit (UNA), and also reject the privatization of state companies and social security.
Similarly, the leaders complained to the National Government for its lack of commitment to the agricultural sector and warned that the technical tables they have implemented have been of no use.
