(Prensa Latina) Venezuela’s chief rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Tania D’Amelio, on Thursday ratified the guarantees to ensure the full participation of women in the regional and municipal elections of upcoming November 21.
In a meeting held with women representatives of the various political organizations, the official indicated that all nominations for the upcoming elections must comply with the rules of gender parity and alternation.
D’Amelio emphasized that Venezuelan women have been empowered in the decision making spaces, and this must also be so in the municipal chambers and in the regional legislative councils.
She indicated that those actions guarantee the respect for the electoral participation of women, particularly in the process of nomination of candidates, scheduled to begin on August 9.
During the encounter held at the CNE headquarters in Caracas, the representatives of the different parties reiterated their willingness to participate in the electoral exercise and in any other event of the national political life.
Venezuela will go to the polls in November to elect the 23 governors and 335 mayors of the country, as well as the members of the state legislative councils and municipal councils.
The renewal of the National Electoral Council and the call for elections were part of the agreements emanating from the dialogue table installed in September 2019 between the Venezuelan government and several parties of the democratic opposition.
